Fish Oils Reduce Breast Cancer Risk

Taking fish oil supplements could reduce breast cancer risk by 32% according to a study published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention.

A study assessed around 35,000 post menopausal women over seven years and concluded that those taking an omega 3 fatty acid rich fish oil supplement had a 32% reduced risk of developing ductal breast cancer.

Ductal breast cancer is the most common type, accounting for 80% of breast cancer cases. Omega 3 fish oils had no obvious impact on the rarer lobular breast cancer.

Research is currently underway at Harvard to determine whether fish oils can also reduce the risk of developing other cancers, heart disease, and stroke.

Reduce Breast Cancer Risk With Fish Oils

You can reduce your risk of ductal breast cancer by including oily fish in your regular diet. The types of fish to look for include herring, sardines, mackerel, salmon, trout and tuna.

If you’re not a fish fan some oils such as linseed, flaxseed, walnut and rapeseed oil also contain omega 3. A daily fish oils supplement could also be a simple answer to getting enough omega 3 to reduce your breast cancer risk.
